RADIATION SIDE EFFECTS
One of the most well-known side effects of radiation therapy is skin damage. As radiation targets cancer cells, it also affects healthy cells in the surrounding area. This can lead to skin irritation, dryness, and changes in pigmentation. In some cases, patients may also develop blisters or open wounds on their skin. These side effects are usually temporary and will improve once treatment is completed, but in some cases they may be long-term or permanent.
One of the most noticeable side effects is dryness and itching of the skin. As radiation damages oil glands in the skin, it becomes less able to retain moisture, resulting in dry, itchy, and flaky skin. This can be uncomfortable and may also cause a burning sensation.
